Head Coach Rick Comley
Opening Statement...
We are obviously very excited to win the hockey game. I though their team came out really strong; they came out fast and crashing. From all that we saw on film, in their best moments, they are very good early. They got the first goal, then we got the fortunate bounce when the puck went off one of the partitions. We just seemed to get better as the game went on.
Feelings on advancing and the game between UAH and UND...
We are happy to be playing in another game. What an exciting hockey game it was. I thought Alabama-Huntsville played outstanding - they battled and the goaltender played well. We saw the talent of Notre Dame too. They were patient, controlled the play, and totally believed they would score. It was a long time ago we played them. They had a tremendous year and are a very well-coached team, as is Boston. BU was one of the harder teams we have played because they are so physical.
On the key to the game...
I thought the key to our game was the end of the first period. At one point, they were out-shooting us 9-0. We gradually just kind of picked away at the tempo of the game. It became obvious we had to play against the boards, cycle, and play their game. We like to do that too, but they do it very well. We gradually returned to playing physical, got the puck and got to the goaltender. Jeff plays very well when he knows the guy at the other end has a lot of numbers.
On weathering the early storm...
What honestly goes through you mind is "Oh boy, here they come." They were roaring, but you're wondering if we can react to it because at times we have reacted well to it and at other times we haven't. We had a lot of guys contribute tonight, and any win in the NCAA Tournament is a major win.
Sophomore Forward Tim Crowder
On the pass that set up his first goal...
It was definitely a great play by Tim Kennedy. All coach wanted us to do was go to the net and keep getting shots. Luckily, Kennedy got my rebound and I was driving to the net so it was a great play.
On his second goal... My second goal, I just noticed Howells coming out from behind the net and they were changing, so their defense was pretty separated. It just happened to be a great pass and I was fortunate to go in and get the goal.
On facing Notre Dame next...
They are obviously a very disciplined team. They play hard, are big and strong, and play very defensive. We just have to keep coming like we did tonight.
Sophomore Goaltender Jeff Lerg
On the one goal he allowed...
I thought it hit my stick, then I saw him celebrating and I wondered how it got in. I think it just kind of squirted over me.
Overall impressions of the team's play...
I thought we contained them well when they were coming hard for the first couple of minutes. They just kept throwing pucks at the net and I was able to control most of them. On the ones that bounced off my pad and back in front of the net, the defense was right on it. They were also really good blocking shots tonight.
On the flow of the game...
It was really surprising - once we weathered the early storm and Timmy Kennedy got that nice first goal we kind of got going. Right off the bat in the second period, that second goal was huge for us. We just kept rolling and throwing pucks at the net, banging away. Those are the types of goals you have to get if you want to win games like this, the tough ones in front.
Sophomore Forward Tim Kennedy
On the first period...
The first period was the most tired I've been all year. They came out flying and it hit us hard. I didn't think I was going to have enough to finish the last two periods. But, we found some energy early in the second and kept going.
On starting the game so late because of the double-overtime contest between Notre Dame and Alabama-Huntsville...
It certainly isn't an ideal situation, but we have to be prepared for all things that come at us and that was no exception. There we no excuses for not playing well.
