EAST LANSING, Mich. - Chris Roberts (Oshkosh, Wis.) has been selected a third-team Freshman All-American as an outfielder by Ping Baseball. Roberts, who was named the No. 2 newcomer in the Big Ten prior to the season, was second on the team with a .331 batting average, including a .360 batting average in Big Ten games. In 44 games, Roberts collected two homers, six doubles, 23 runs, 27 RBI, 48 hits and a .418 on-base percentage.
Roberts was named the Big Ten Player of the Week May 7 after batting .563 (9-for-16) with five RBI in the Ohio State series. Roberts provided two game-winning hits in the Northwestern series: in the second game of a doubleheader on May 12, he broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run, bases-loaded single, and in the series finale May 13, he hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give MSU the 4-3 win. He also provided the game-winning hit in MSU's upset over No. 21 Oklahoma on March 16, delivering an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Spartans a 4-3 victory.
Over the summer, Roberts is playing for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League.
