EAST LANSING, Mich. - With a time of 55.40 and a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly at the United States Central Zone Championship Meet held at Miami University (Ohio) on Tuesday, junior MSU swimmer Marcus Poteete has qualified for the United States Olympic Time Trials. The event will be held in Omaha, Neb., in July of 2008.
"I am really proud of Marcus (Poteete)," swimming and diving coach Matt Gianiodis said. "He worked really hard to improve this summer. He walked on the team two years ago and has quickly become one of our best athletes. I hope Marcus can be joined in Omaha next summer with a few more of his teammates."
Poteete, a native of Santa Cruz, Calif., is a two-year letterwinner at MSU and has competed at the Big Ten Championship Meet twice during his Spartan career.
The Michigan State swimming and diving team begins the 2007-08 season with its annual Green and White meet on Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.
