ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Freshman Kevin Puskaric's first-place swim in the 200 breast and sophomore divers Ivan Zalessov and David Garry posted the top performances for the Michigan State men's and women's swimming & diving teams, but the Spartans fell to Michigan, 154-77, in the men's dual meet and 160-74, in the women's contest.
Puskaric's win was the only win in 26 events for MSU. The Mokena, Ill., native clocked a 2:00.98 en route to the victory. Senior Adam Schmitt finished third in the event.
"Kevin had a good meet, and he won that 200 breast against some good competitors," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "Michigan is a really good team with a lot of quality swimmers."
Zalessov won one-meter diving with a total of 261.75, just a few points ahead of Garry's 253.65 score. Garry would later take first off the three-meter board, registering a score of 322.05.
Sophomore Joe Schmitt also had a strong showing, placing third in a very deep 100 free race with a time of 46.43. Schmitt did one better in the 400 free relay, swimming to a 45.44 in the third leg of the relay.
