COLUMBUS, Ohio - Both Michigan State representatives at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships fell on Saturday. Seniors Alex Forger (Okemos, Mich.) and John Allare (Maineville, Ohio) competed in singles play.
Forger opened the day against Gregory Holm of Iowa, posting an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win. He advanced to play Justin Kronauge of Ohio State in the next round. Forger fell in the third set, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, to Kronauge while Allare fell to Moritz Baumann of Wisconsin in the first round.
"We played some of the best players in the Midwest," said head coach Gene Orlando. "We hoped to advance further, but it was a single elimination tournament, which is tough. We are going to focus now on preparing for the Big Ten Tournament which is our last tournament this fall."
The Spartans will continue fall play at the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. The event will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
