Wisconsin Defeats Women's Soccer, 2-0

MADISON, Wis. - The Michigan State women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to Wisconsin on Sunday (Oct. 19) in Madison, Wis. With the loss, MSU is now 13-4 and 5-3 in Big Ten play while the Badgers improve to 9-6-1 and 3-4 in the conference.
"We had a lot of pressure but Wisconsin played great defense and they deserved to win," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "We made a couple of disappointing mistakes and Wisconsin capitalized so we're not happy about that. Credit goes to Wisconsin."
The Badgers took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute off a goal by Erin Jacobsen and then stifled the Spartans' offensive attack for the rest of the half, allowing just one MSU shot.
Another Wisconsin goal at the 50:25 mark gave the Badgers a 2-0 lead and allowed them to step up their defensive pressure on the Spartans dangerous offensive attack. Despite the Badgers increased defensive pressure, the Spartans were able to generate several quality scoring chances and seven second-half shots.
"We were really pressing in the final 15 minutes and tried to get our midfielders involved," Saxton said. "Our kids never quit and they played hard all game."
Wisconsin outshot MSU, 12-8, for the game.
MSU returns to action on Friday at Indiana.
