
Miscues Doom Spartans To 15-1 Loss To Creighton

HOUSTON, Texas - Michigan State committed three errors and two passed balls which resulted in eight unearned run as the Spartans baseball team lost to defending Missouri Valley champion Creighton, 15-1, Saturday night at Rice's Reckling Park. Michigan State concludes its spring trip with a 3-6 record, and is now 5-7. Creighton moves to 7-3.
Sophomore Chris Roberts had an RBI single in the seventh. Junior Kyle Day scored MSU's lone run.
Leading 4-0, the Bluejays struck for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Steve Winkelman's three-run double was the decisive blow in the inning. Winkelman finished the game with five RBI.
With MSU trailing 10-1, Creighton's Nick Nordgren hit a three-run double of his own to make it 13-1.
Creighton took advantage of two Spartan errors in the top of the first, scoring three times on just one hit. The Bluejays tallied another unearned run in the third - this time as a result of a passed ball - to take a 4-0 lead.
The Spartans return to action Friday, March 14 when they begin a three-game series against Quinnipiac in Greenville, S.C.

An intense sun glare reflection in centerfield forced a 22-minute glare delay...Senior Max Miller made his first appearance of the season, pitching the bottom of the seventh. It was his second career appearance...Senior Kyle Kunkel notched his first career hit, a single through the left side in the ninth...Twenty-one Spartans saw action in the game.
