ANN ARBOR, MICH. - The Michigan State field hockey team tied host Michigan, 2-2, on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition game to open play for the 2008 season.
The game consisted of three 20-minute periods. Freshman Libby Liesveld opened the scoring for MSU. Senior Michelle Ciliberti added a goal in the third period to tie the game, and junior Elissa Unger was in goal for the Spartans.
"It was good to finally scrimmage another team after weeks of intrasquad practices," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "We found some things that worked, and others that we need to work on before the season opening this next weekend."
The Spartans open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. against Delaware in the Champions Invitational Tournament in Louisville, Ky. Michigan State will then face Duke or Louisville on Sunday.
