Cross Country Travels to Compete in EMU Fall Classic

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State cross country team is set to compete at Eastern Michigan's Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 23. The EMU Classic marks the team's final regular season competition, before traveling to State College, Pa. next weekend to compete in the 2009 Big Ten Championship meet.
The EMU Fall Classic will be held at Hudson Mills Metro Park in Dexter, Mich., with the women's 5K race scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. followed by the men's 10K race at 4:30 p.m.
The women's team, currently ranked second in the Great Lakes Region, fell three spots to No. 27 in the USTFCCCA rankings this week. The team is coming off a 10th-place finish at the Pre-National's, where redshirt junior Emily MacLeod (Loveland, Ohio) lead the way, claiming an 11th place finish overall. Sophomores Carlie Green (Milford, Mich.) and Tiffany Abrahamian (Rochester, Mich.) took second and third places for the team, and finished 42nd and 68th overall, respectively.
The men's team finished 21st last weekend at Pre-National's, with junior Patrick Grosskopf (Corunna, Mich.) pacing the team with a time of 24:49.4, and a 62nd-place finish overall. Junior Spencer Beatty (Harbor Springs, Mich.) clocked a time of 24:52.6, while freshman Ben Miller (Brooklyn, Mich.) crossed the line in 25:19.7.
At last year's 2008 EMU Fall Open, junior Kelsey Meyers (Goodrich, Mich.) took first place for her team, and finished fourth overall with a time of 18:24. The women's team finished with runners in positions 13-16 with redshirt senior Jennifer Hamilton (Battle Creek, Mich.), redshirt senior Diane Hamilton (Battle Creek, Mich.) and senior Thereseann Huprikar (Gaylord, Mich.) claiming spots.
