Women's Golf In Fifth Place At Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - In a 16-team field featuring nine ranked teams, the Michigan State women's golf team sits in fifth place after round one of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge held Monday afternoon at the Palos Verdes Country Club. The No. 20 Spartans carded a team score of 316 (+32), which is 11 shots back of tournament leader and top-ranked Arizona State.
Junior Laura Kueny led the team on Monday, going into the clubhouse in 13th place after shooting a 77 (+6). Kueny carded one par and a 36 on the front nine, but shot a 41 on the back nine with two birdies, one par, five bogeys and a double-bogey.
Sophomore Aimee Neff is right behind in a tie for 14th with a 7-over 78 (38-40). Neff recorded three birdies total in her round.
Playing in her first tournament in California as a Spartan, freshman Lindsey Solberg carded an 80 (40-40) to sit in a tie for 27th. Sophomore Michelle Bowles rounded out MSU's scoring with a 10-over 81 (38-43).
Senior Holly Niederkohr closed out her first round with an 83 (39-44).
