Field Hockey Players Honored by NFHCA for Academics

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Eleven members of the Michigan State field hockey team have been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The Spartans were recently recognized by the NFHCA with the National Academic Team Award, given to programs with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The 11 players named to the National Academic Squad were Corey Block, Angie Lucik, Julie Mackay, Meghan Magee, Brittany Miller, Chantae Miller, Geraldine Raynor, Floor Rijpma, Gwen Riley, Holly Sherman and Elissa Unger. Two seniors, Raynor and Riley, were four-year award recipients.
It is the third-straight year the Spartans have received the National Academic Team Award, and marks the second time in program history MSU has placed 11 players on the National Academic Squad.
La Salle took top honors in 2008 with a team GPA of 3.56. Last year's top finisher, Old Dominion was second with a 3.47, Indiana and Yale finished third with a 3.46, Central Michigan placed fourth (3.45) and American University rounded out the top five (3.44).
