
Women's Tennis Falls to No. 59 Minnesota

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (7-10, 0-4 Big Ten) fell, 6-1, to No. 59 Minnesota at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility on Sunday, March 22. Earning the lone Spartan victory in singles play was freshman Dana Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.). With the win, Minnesota is now 7-7 overall on the season and 1-2 in Big Ten play. The Spartans fall to 5-4 at home on the season; all of their losses have come from ITA ranked opponents - No. 54 Marshall (March 1), No. 1 Northwestern (March 7), No. 72 Iowa (March 21) and No. 59 Minnesota (March 22).
Guentert began her No. 6 singles match by dropping the first set to Jackie Sperling, 6-3. However, Guentert was unfazed, earning the 6-4 win in the second set. Since the match had already been the decided, the two were forced to a third-set super tiebreaker. Guentert won, 10-8 giving her the match.
In doubles play, earning the lone Spartan win was the tandem of senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) and freshman Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia) at No. 2 doubles. Kebler and Ivanova defeated Tijana Koprivica and Niltooli Wilkins in a convincing manner, 8-3.
The Spartans will return to action on Sunday, March 29, as they face Big Ten foe Wisconsin at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility at 11 a.m.
