
Xavier Tops Spartan Baseball, 7-3

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A six-run first inning helped Xavier defeat the Michigan State baseball team, 7-3, Saturday (March 7) afternoon in Daytona Beach, Fla. MSU (1-7) will face Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. Saturday night in its third game of the Bethune-Cookman Invitational.
The Musketeers batted around in the bottom of the first as they jumped on the Spartans early with six hits and a trio of MSU errors to take a 6-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Spartans put up one run in the third courtesy of a Chris Roberts single up the middle that scored Eli Boike.
With the score 7-1 in the seventh, Boike hit his team-leading second home run of the season to cut the deficit to 7-2. Boike's opposite field shot cleared left-field wall. Johnny Lee hit a two-out single in the eighth that drove in Eric Roof and made the final score 7-3.
Xavier (5-4) got a strong performance from starter Danny Rosenbaum (2-0) who went 6.0 innings, giving up five hits with five strikeouts.
A.J. Achter (0-1) went 5.0 innings in his third start of the season and surrendered seven hits. The Spartans' Cody Huge made his first collegiate appearance, retiring the Musketeers' in order in the ninth inning.
