Men's Golf Finish 11th at Boilermaker Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team slipped to 11th at the Boilermaker Invitational after a final round 14-over par 302. For the two-day, 54-hole tournament, held at the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, the Spartans shot a 26-over par 890 (297-291-302).
Sophomore Payne Gniewek led MSU this weekend, tallying an even-par 216 (71-74-71) to finish in 11th individually. Junior Jack Newman tied for 37th at six-over 222 (75-70-77) and classmate Andrew Ladwig tied for 43rd at eight-over 224 (76-74-74). Rounding out the Spartans in the field, sophomore Graham Baillargeon tied for 69th at 14-over 230 (75-75-80) and freshman Phil Snow tied for 89th at 26-over 242 (85-73-84).
Illinois overtook Penn State on the final day for the Boilermaker Invitational title. The Illini carded a final round four-under 284 to top PSU by one stroke with a three-round total of nine-under par 855. Penn State's Kevin Foley and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman shared the individual title at nine-under par 207.
The Spartans host the Fossum/Spartan Invitational this weekend (April 25-26) at the Forest Akers West Course.
