EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team finished the first day of action at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Saturday at Forest Oaks Country Club. The Spartans are 14th through 36 holes at 12-over par 588 (297-291).
North Carolina leads the tournament at 28-under par 548, six shots ahead of Michigan and nine shots clear of Virginia Tech. There is a five-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under par 136.
Junior Dave Ellis leads the Spartan effort, sitting in a tie for 42nd at 1-over par 145 (74-71). Freshman Gareth Blease is tied for 59th at 3-over 147 (74-73), while junior Chris Mory (75-73) and freshman Conor O'Neil (74-74) are among a group tied for 63rd with 4-over 148. Rounding out the MSU golfers, junior Dan Ellis is tied for 74th at 8-over 152 (75-77). Blease leads the Spartans with seven birdies, while Dave Ellis and O'Neil each has carded six.
The final round is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
