Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Rees Jones Intercollegiate

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team concluded action at the third-annual Rees Jones Intercollegiate on Tuesday in fifth place. The Spartans, who hosted the event at the Haig Point Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C., shot a final round 24-over par 312 to finish the week at 70-over par 934 (322-300-312).
Freshman Conor O'Neil led the Spartans with his first collegiate top-10 finish. O'Neil carded a final round 2-over 74 to finish at 15-over par 231 (80-77-74) and in a tie for 10th.
Sophomore James Ross was a shot back of O'Neil overall, finishing tied for 14th, with a two-day total of 16-over par 232 (81-74-77). Ross led the Spartans with seven birdies at the Rees Jones.
Freshman Gareth Blease, competing in his tournament as part of the Spartans' starting five, tied for 21st overall with a 19-over 124 (82-72-81). Rounding out the competitive five, junior Chris Mory tied for 32nd at 23-over 239 (79-80-80) and sophomore Matthew Moseley tied for 39th at 26-over 242 (83-77-82). Competing as an individual, sophomore Will Morris shot a 25-over 241 (82-76-83) and tied for 37th.
Liberty and Kennesaw State finished tied at 38-over par 902 after 54 holes, but Kennesaw State would go on to defeat Liberty in a playoff for the team title. Kennesaw State's Matt Nagy led wire-to-wire to take medalist honors with an even-par 216 (70-73-73).
The Spartans return to action this weekend for The Prestige at PGA WEST, held Oct. 10-12 at the TPC Stadium Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif.
