EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Raymar Morgan posted 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Spartans over No. 3 Purdue in a critical road contest on Sunday. The performance marked Morgan's second double-double in conference play this season and his highest scoring output since netting 20 tallies against Michigan on Jan. 26. Overall, the Spartan senior went six-of-nine (.667) from the floor while connecting on four-of-five (.800) attempts from the charity stripe in 32 minutes of action. The Canton, Ohio native also pulled down five offensive rebounds while adding six on the defensive end as MSU overpowered the Boilermakers on the glass, 46-20, in the victory. Morgan is now averaging 12.5 boards in his last two outings. The win brought Michigan State even with Purdue in the Big Ten standings as each team sits a half game behind Ohio State for the conference lead. The award, shared with Ohio State's Evan Turner, is the first Player of the Week honor for Morgan this season and his fourth overall.
Durrell Summers was the last Spartan to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season (Feb. 1, 2010).
With 1,484 career points and 717 career rebounds, Morgan needs only 16 points to become just the fifth player in MSU history to score over 1,500 points and grab at least 700 boards.
