EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State swimming freshman Jacob Jarzen will begin competition at the 2010 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday in Columbus, Ohio. Originally scheduled to begin Thursday, the Championships were pushed back to Friday due to several student-athletes coming down with an illness. Jarzen's events - the 100 butterfly, 100 and 200 backstroke - will now begin on Saturday.
Jarzen, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, set school records in the 100 butterfly (47.01), 100 backstroke (48.28) and 200 backstroke (1:44.43). He was also a part of the school-record setting 800 freestyle, 400 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
"I'm really excited to go down to Columbus and compete," Jarzen said. "I was nervous to see whether or not I would get it, but I'm really happy I got in and it's going to be a great experience."
