East Lansing, Mich. - With the 2010-11 hockey season quickly approaching, season tickets will soon be on sale. The Spartan Ticket Office will begin accepting new season-ticket applications from MSU Hockey alumni and Spartan Fund donors on Sept. 1, and then will be open to the general public on Sept. 15.
The 2010-11 season has a reduction in number of home contests (down to 18 from 20 a year ago), and a price adjustment has taken place to make season tickets more affordable than ever for fans. The new general public price for chairback seats is $306 (down from $370) , and each bench seat is priced at $270 (down from $334). Season ticket prices for public are down to $17 per game for chairback seats from $18.50 last year, and the price per game for bench seats is down from $16.70 per game a year ago to $15 per game for the upcoming season. MSU Faculty and Staff can purchase season tickets for $252 (chairbacks) and $216 (bench seats).
CCHA playoff tickets will not be a part of the season ticket package; season ticket locations for CCHA playoffs will be reserved for the season ticket holder and offered for purchase prior to the event.
A new addition for 2010-11 is a season ticket package for Young Alumni, for those who are one and two years past graduation . Young Alumni season tickets average out to $10 per game, a season ticket cost of $180 per seat, with young alumni eligible to purchase two season tickets at this discounted rate. The Young Alumni season ticket was introduced for Spartan football in recent seasons, and has proven to be very popular with this demographic of fans.
For MSU students, the season ticket package for seats in the "Slapshots" section remains at only $6 per game, ($108 for the season.) Slapshots also receive a free t-shirt with their season ticket package.
This season, the Spartan Ticket Office will be issuing a BRING-A-FRIEND coupon ($20 value) that will be included with each season ticket package sold (with the exception of student season tickets) . These coupons can be exchanged for a reserved bleacher seat for any home game other than the Jan. 7 contest against Michigan. These coupons can be exchanged at any of the other 17 home games on the schedule while supplies last. Season ticket holders can exchange them in advance at the Spartan Ticket Office, or at the ticket window on the night of a home game.
Eighteen hockey letterwinners return from a team which finished second in the CCHA in 2009-10, and the schedule features the annual showdown with archrival Michigan, a two-game set with each defending CCHA regular-season champion Miami and Big Ten foe Ohio State, and a non-conference series in October against perennial NCAA Tournament contender the University of Maine. Eight of the 18 home games take place on Saturdays, and all but two home games take place on weekend evenings.
Outside of the ticket package, there are several other games that are exciting for fans. The most noteworthy game will be the "Big Chill at the Big House" at Michigan Stadium on Dec. 11, a rematch of the first modern outdoor game played between the schools back in 2001. In addition, the 46th annual Great Lakes Invitational will be played on Dec. 29-30, and the annual showdown with Michigan at Joe Louis Arena on Jan. 29.
MSU's hockey season begins with MSU's exhibition game against Western Ontario on Friday, Oct. 8, and the Spartans welcome Maine for the first regular-season series on Oct. 14-15. The Green & White exhibition game will be played on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. at Munn Ice Arena.
