Spartans Lead Rain Delayed Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The first day of action at the 2010 Fossum Invitational was suspended this afternoon at 3:40 p.m. ET in the middle of the second round due to heavy rains at Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Michigan State men's golf team held a 11-stroke lead after the first round of action.
The second round will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET. The tournament has also been shortened to a 36-hole event.
The Spartans shot an opening round 6-over par 294 to lead Dayton and Saint Francis (PA) by 11 shots. Detroit is fourth at 18-over par 306.
Spartan junior Chris Mory and freshman Carson Castellani are among four golfers tied for the first round lead at 1-over par 73. Joining the two MSU golfers was Detroit's Jeff Clarridge and Saint Francis' Michael Magalski.
Sophomore James Ross and freshman Conor O'Neil is one shot back and tied for sixth after an opening round 2-over 74. Junior Dave Ellis, the final member of the Spartan five, is tied for ninth at 3-over 75.
Leading the MSU individuals, freshman Gareth Blease carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for ninth. Four Spartan individuals - redshirt senior Derrick Williams, juniors Jimmy Dewling and Dan Ellis, and sophomore Matthew Moseley - are among a group tied for 15th at 4-over 76. Sophomore Will Morris, the last individual for MSU, is tied for 46th with a 8-over 80.
