
Women's Golf Finishes 11th at NCAA Fall Preview

BRYAN, Texas - The Michigan State women's golf team posted its best round of the NCAA Fall Preview Wednesday with a 7-over 295, moving up three places to finish 11th overall (299-300-295--894) at the prestigious 18-team tournament. The event was held at Texas A&M's Traditions Club, site of the 2011 NCAA Championships next May.
Sophomore Caroline Powers shot an even-par 72 in the third round, her top showing of the tournament. Powers led MSU by shooting a three-round total of 220 (74-74-72) to tie for 30th place.
Aimee Neff also carded her best round of the tournament with a 1-over 73 on Wednesday. The senior from Carmel, Ind., compiled a 226 (76-77-73) over the three rounds to tie for 56th.
Playing in her first collegiate tournament, true freshman Christine Meier tied Neff by shooting a 226 (78-73-75).
Michelle Bowles was just one stroke behind Neff and Meier with a 227 (71-80-76), good for 59th place.
Junior Lindsey Solberg rounded out the team's scoring on Wednesday with a final-round 75. Overall, she compiled a 231 (80-76-75).
Alabama claimed the team championship with a course-record 849 (-15).
The Spartans return to action Sept. 25-26 as they host their only tournament of the season, the Mary Fossum Invitational, at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
