
Women's Tennis Closes Out Action at Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded the 21st Annual Spartan Invitational Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 26. The tournament began on Friday and concluded today with the final matches at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. MSU ended the final day with six singles wins and one doubles win.
Senior Whitney Wilson defeated Border from the University of Toledo, 6-4, 6-1, in the Singles A draw. Freshman Katarina Lingl fell to Barry from Marquette, 7-6, 6-0, Singles A draw. There was another Spartan victory in the Singles B draw as freshman Marina Bohrer downed Emily Reuland from Bowling Green, 6-4, 6-3.
In the Singles C draw, freshman Valentina Rusakova handed Janek from Cleveland State a 7-6 (4), 6-1 loss. Freshman Olga Chernova also recorded a victory by defeating Coffman from the University of Toledo, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8. Junior Ashley Stockwell topped Rivero from Eastern Michigan, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
In doubles action, Wilson and Bohrer defeated Hush and Ruiz from Marquette, 8-5, in Doubles A draw. The duo had a total of three double wins in the tournament throughout the weekend. Sophomore Michaela Silesova and Rusakova fell to Cristello and Guimarares from the University of Toledo, 8-4, in Doubles A draw. Lingl and Chernova also suffered a doubles loss to Reuland and Grubb from Bowling Green by a close score of 9-8 (5) in Doubles B draw. Stockwell and freshman Jennifer Yen fell in doubles action, 8-1, to Johnson and Bickrel from Ball State in Doubles C draw.
The Spartans will travel Ann Arbor, Mich., next weekend for the Wolverine Invitational. Action begins on Friday, Oct. 1.
