EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State Men's Tennis team will compete in its third fall tournament of the year, as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The tournament begins this Thursday, October 13 and will conclude on Sunday, October 17.
The Spartans will begin with singles qualifying draw, where freshman Harry Jadun, sophomore Drew Lied and juniors Christian Roehmer and Will Davis are scheduled to compete.
Main Draw singles action will begin on Friday as five Spartans have already automatically qualified. Freshman Gijs Linders, sophomore Aaron Pfister, junior Denis Bogatov and seniors Ron Hulewicz and Austin Brooks are set for Friday afternoon matches.
Doubles matches are also slated to begin on Friday, at 4:30 p.m. Five Spartan duos will be competing; Brooks/Pfister, Lied/Linders, Davis/Hulewicz, Bogatov/Jadun and Roehmer/Zade make up the doubles roster.
The Spartans have been impressive in their first two outings this fall, as they hosted both the Frank Beeman and Stan Drobac Invitationals.
Pfister picked up right where he left off last season by earning four singles victories in the Frank Beeman Invitational, and notching another four in doubles play with his partner Denis Bogatov.Hulewicz led the way for the Spartans at the Drobac Invite, tallying two victories in singles play and an additional four wins in doubles action with partner Will Davis.
The Spartans will enter weekend play with the highest number of automatic qualifiers in singles play that the program has seen. MSU is currently ranked #52 in the ITA polls, and are ranked 5th of the 19 teams competing this weekend.
