EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming and diving team hosts St. Bonaventure in a dual on Friday Nov. 18 at McCaffree Pool at IM West. Action begins at 5 p.m. with the 16 events alternating between women's and men's heats.
Friday's competition also marks senior day for six Spartans on the men's team; Brian Akers, Jason Austerman, Cameron Bartlett, Tyler Groskopf, Jason Lintjer and Mark Schramm. Senior-day presentations will begin prior to the event at 4:50 p.m.
As an SBU alum, head coach Matt Gianodis is looking forward to Friday's meet. "St. Bonaventure is my alma mater and I am very happy that we have the opportunity to host them," he said.
The Spartans last competed against the Bonnies two seasons ago in their final home meet of the 2009-10 season. MSU swept the event, defeating SBU in both the men's and women's competitions with scores of 124-11 and 138-89, respectively. The team won nine swimming events and also swept both the one- and three-meter titles in both men's and women's on the board.
Last weekend, MSU took on in-state foe Grand Valley State in a dual at Jenison Aquatic Center. The Green and White took the meet on both sides, with the women downing GVSU in a dominate 167-76 victory and the men narrowly escaping with a close 120-119 score. The men captured six first-place finishes, including a top individual performance from junior Jacob Jarzen who won both the 200 IM (1:54.89) and 200 backstroke (1:50.86). The women also walked away with seven top performances, including both diving events.
