EAST LANSING, Mich. - The women's swimming and diving team returns to East Lansing on Friday (Nov. 4), as they play host to Illinois at 5 p.m. ET at the McCaffree Pool at IM West. The teams will compete in 16 events with one heat of each.
The Spartans faced the Fighting Illini twice last year during a tri-meet, which included Southern Illinois and again at the Big Ten Championships. MSU went 1-1, falling to Illinois in a close 170-129 margin at the tri-meet, but finished ahead of them during the championships later that season.
This marks the women's third meet of the year, after they hosted Cleveland State and Oakland in a tri-meet to open up season action and took on the Hawkeyes in Iowa this past weekend.
Thus far, the women have been led by senior Sarah Clay on the diving board. Clay has tallied three first-place finishes and one second-place honor in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions.
Junior Jenny Rusch has also been a positive spark for the Spartans. Rusch notched a first-place victory in the 50-yard freestyle at Iowa and also took home second-place honors in the same event at the team's tri-meet season opener.
