
Appling Named Big Ten Player Of The Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Keith Appling was named Co-Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon. For the week, the sophomore guard from Detroit averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. In the same week, he established new career highs in scoring, rebounds and assists. It is the first weekly honor of his career.
Appling opened the week with a career-high 24 points against Florida State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, adding seven rebounds and two blocks. He followed that effort with 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in just 23 minutes in MSU's 110-68 win over Nebraska Omaha. The rebound and assist totals were career bests. For the two games, Appling shot 61.9 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 1.000 at the foul line.
Appling is the first Spartan to win the weekly honor this year, and the first overall since Draymond Green on Jan. 17, 2011. For the season, he is averaging 12.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.
