
Spartan Baseball Cruises Past Yale, 14-1

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Michigan State baseball team cruised past Yale, 14-1, Friday night in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Spartans improved to 9-3, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-4.
Brandon Eckerle and Andrew Carpenter each collected four hits for MSU. Carpenter hit a two-run homer to left in the second and had four RBIs and three runs scored. Michigan State had 18 hits overall in the game.
The Spartans scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh to build a commanding 9-0 lead.
Yale scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Michigan State finished the game with five runs in the top of the ninth, including a three-run homer by Seth Williams.
Senior right-hander Kurt Wunderlich struck out seven batters and gave up just three runs in six scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season. Rob Cerfolio took the loss for Yale, allowing six runs on 10 hits in five innings.
The Spartans return to action Saturday to face Akron at 4:30 p.m.
