COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State swimming & diving senior Kevin Puskaric placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke on Sunday, March 6 at the Ohio State Last Ditch NCAA Qualifier. Puskaric's time of 1:55.81 is a program best, breaking his previous mark set in 2008.
"We weren't sure if this would be something he would participate in," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "We decided on Friday, after seeing results for the PAC 10 Championships, that he will participate to improve his chances at an NCAA Championships berth. Kevin is just an incredible athlete and a phenomenal competitor. He knew it was his last chance and decided to go after it."
Puskaric and the Spartans will wait until later this week to see which individuals will qualify for the 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., March 24-26. The divers head to Columbus, Ohio March 10-12 for the NCAA Diving Zone Championships.
