EAST LANSING, Mich. - In its final tournament of the spring before the Big Ten Championship, the Michigan State men's golf team travels to Urbana, Ill., for the Illini Spring Classic. The tournament, held at the Stone Creek Golf Club, will feature 54 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun at 9 a.m. ET both days.
The Spartan competitive lineup this weekend includes juniors Dan Ellis, Dave Ellis and Chris Mory, sophomore Matthew Moseley and freshman Gareth Blease. Junior Jimmy Dewling will be competing as an individual.
Dan Ellis and Mory both tied for 12th last weekend at the UK Bluegrass Invitational, setting a new career best placement for Ellis and continuing a string of three-straight top-20 finishes for Mory. As a team, MSU placed sixth in Lexington, marking its third consecutive top-10 finish in the spring.
The tournament has a heavy Big Ten feel, featuring 10 of the 11 conference teams, as the programs prepare for the upcoming Big Ten Championship (April 28-May 1). The field includes Akron, Creighton, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Xavier.
