Heyboer Discusses Selection to US U-23 Camp
East Lansing, Mich. - Junior forward Laura Heyboer (Hudsonville, Mich.) has been named to the roster for the upcoming US U-23 National Team Training Camp. The three-time All-American will participate in the camp in Carson, California April 24-May 1.
USA Soccer's U-23 training camp's participants will come solely from collegiate programs. The 24 players selected by head coach Bill Irwin include two others from Big Ten institutions: midfielders Vanessa DiBernardo from Illinois, and Jordan Jackson from Nebraska. The Big Ten's three institutions represented is tied for the second-most of any collegiate conference in the country, behind the ACC, which sends representatives from Virginia (3), Florida State (3), Boston College (2), and Duke (1). The West Coast Conference is sending four representatives from three institutions: Portland (2), Santa Clara (1) and San Diego (1). The SEC, Pac10, and Big East are all represented by student-athletes from two institutions. Previously, Heyboer traveled with the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team to England in July of 2009. A broken leg kept Heyboer from participating in National Team activities last year, but now healthy, she returns to action.
On April 27, the U-23s will scrimmage against the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team that is holding a concurrent training camp. The team will also face women's club Ajax of Los Angeles (April 29) and WPSL side Orange County Waves (April 30).
Heyboer, the only active three-time All-America in Division I soccer, is tied for the all-time scoring lead at Michigan State and with a senior season on par with her first three, will shatter all of MSU's scoring records. She is currently second in the MSU record books with 95 career points.
