
Women's Tennis Drops Match to Minnesota, 4-3

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- - The No. 60 Michigan State women's tennis (12-6, 1-4 Big Ten) team fell to Minnesota, 4-3, at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn. It was the Spartans second consecutive conference loss. In its first outside match of the spring season, MSU tallied the doubles point for the 17th time this season.
Sophomore Amy Barton and freshman Marina Bohrer proved why they are ranked No. 19 with an impressive 8-1 victory over Natallia Pintusava and Yuliana Umanets at the No. 1 doubles position. The pairing of sophomore Nicole Herzog and senior Whitney Wilson suffered an 8-2 loss to Alexa Palen and Alessandra Ferrazzi at the No. 2 slot. Sophomore Michaela Silesova and freshman Valentina Rusakova clinched the doubles point by edging Magdalena Wiecha and Mariana Spilca, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles.
No. 121 Barton suffered a heartbreaking loss to No. 56 Pintusava, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Michigan State won at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions with Rusakova downing Ferrazzi, 6-4, 6-3, and Bohrer topping Umanets, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Olga Chernova was defeated, 6-4, 6-1, by Palen at No. 4 singles. Wiecha dropped Herzog, 6-0, 6-4. Sophomore Dana Guentert also recorded a loss to Doron Muravnik, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 6 position.
The Spartans welcome Penn State to East Lansing on Saturday, April 9th at 11 a.m. They will then host Ohio State the following day, Sunday, April 10th, with an 11 a.m., start time. Action will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
