
Mory Finishes Fifth at 2011 Big Ten Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Chris Mory completed an impressive Big Ten Championship, finishing in a tie for fifth to earn all-tournament honors. Mory, who finished at 4-over par 292 (74-69-77-72), had the best finish by a Spartan since Ryan Brehm was runner-up in 2008.
As a team, Michigan State was 10th, shooting a 58-over par 1210 (304-296-315-295), on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. Illinois won the Big Ten title by 19 shots over the field, shooting an 8-over par 1160.
Mory is among a group of four tied for fifth, ending up five strokes behind individual champion, Luke Guthrie of Illinois. Mory had a team-best 13 birdies for the 72-hole tournament, including four in his even par round today. He also played the par-5s at 4-under par this weekend.
Junior Dan Ellis, appearing in his first Big Ten Championship, tied for 28th at 14-over par 302 (74-76-77-75). Ellis had 11 birdies this weekend, and took advantage of the par-5s, playing them at 5-under.
Junior Jimmy Dewling (76-76-81-78) and sophomore Matthew Moseley (80-75-83-73) were among a group tied for 43rd at 23-over par 311. The final Spartan, freshman Gareth Blease, ended up tied for 53rd at 32-over par 320 (84-81-80-75).
