
Chris Mory Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's golf junior Chris Mory was named a 2010-11 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Mory is just the eighth Spartan to be honored all-time, but the fourth in the last three seasons. In all, a total of 138 Division I student-athletes, including 10 from the Big Ten, were honored this season.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Jack Newman earned the accolade the last two seasons, while being joined by Jordan Ensrud in 2009. In addition, John Koskinen was named an All-America Scholar in 2002 and 2003, Chris Lemmon was honored in 1995 and Dean Holland took home the award in 1985.
Mory led the Spartans this season with a 74.6 stroke average, while also posting a team-best three top-5 and five top-20 finishes. He improved his play in the spring, carding a 73.0 scoring average, compared to a 76.3 mark in the fall. Mory began the season by tying for first at the Fossum Invitational, before losing to teammate James Ross in a playoff. In addition he posted a career low 54-hole score of 213 at the FAU Spring Break Championship. Mory wrapped up the season by earning All-Championship honors at the Big Ten Championship, tying for fifth place. Mory was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection and MSU's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
