EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis player, Denis Bogatov was named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Co-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The Gurnee, Ill., native notched a 2-0 singles and 2-0 doubles record over the weekend and helped the Spartans improve to 3-0 in dual action in their tripleheader against Bradley, Morehead State and Wright State.
In singles play, Bogatov defeated Martin Arguello of Wright State in a convincing 6-1, 6-1 match and Roger White of Morehead State with another 6-1, 6-1 score.
The junior also teamed up with Doug Zade to defeat Arguello and Ricardo Pineda of Wright State (8-5), before partnering with Harry Jadun to topple Ashton Kalhorn and Ahmed Albitar of Bradley (8-2).
This is Bogatov's first weekly award of his career. The last Spartan to earn the nod was Aaron Pfister earlier this season in November 2011.
Bogatov and the Spartans will be back in action this Friday, Jan 20 when they host No. 16 Mississippi State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Match play begins at 6 p.m.
