MSU's first spring competition went fairly well in the eyes of head coach Matt Weise, who's team capped a week of warm-weather training with a scrimmage against Virginia on Saturday morning.
While no official times were recorded, two MSU entries defeated their Cavalier counterparts, as the second varsity eight and novice eights both won their head-to-head races. The varsity eight and varsity four did not take away victories, but a win wasn't necessarily the most important thing for Weise's squad as they finished up their spring break training.
"This is a chance for us to train on the water, and then measure ourselves against another team - one which is consistently among the programs which earn NCAA bids," said the head coach. "Don't get me wrong - I don't like losing. But I did like the way we raced today. I thought it was good to race someone else instead of against ourselves. The team stuck to the race plans, and it will be a good step forward for us as we get ready for our first duals in a couple of weeks."
