MTennis Falls to the Wolverines

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team faced off against No. 25 ranked Michigan Saturday afternoon suffering a 7-0 defeat. The Spartans were coming off a 3 game winning streak before heading to Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines. MSU was able to pick up one doubles match but came up short overall falling 7-0 in their second Big Ten match of the season.

The Wolverines started off strong in doubles play winning two of the three matches to pick up the first point of the day. King and Bernstein knocked off Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied on court one by a score of 8-3 followed by a win by Frank and Buzzi on court two over Austin Brooks and Harry Jadun in a hard fought 9-8 (3) match on court two. Gijs Linders and Denis Bogatov picked up a win for the Spartans by a score of 8-6 on court three but the Spartans still came up short of the point.

Michigan continued their strong play into the singles matches taking all six points. King won the first singles point on court oneby defeating Aaron Pfister 6-0, 6-2. Buzzi won the next point for the Wolverines on court six over Gijs Linders 7-5, 6-3. Drew Lied came up short in three sets against Franks after winning the first match before falling 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Bogatov fought hard in three matches as well, coming behind in the second set before falling 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3. The next two points went to UM on courts two and four as they completed the sweep against the Spartans. Bernstein defeated Hulewicz 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in close battle on court two before Zhu beat out Austin Brook 7-5, 6-4 on court four.

Michigan State looks to rebound in Big Ten play next Friday as they travel to Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers at 7:30 p.m.
