TULSA, Okla. - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued action Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships in the second round of doubles qualifying. The event is being held at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Gijs Linders and Aaron Pfister defeated Ryan Cheung and Jonathan Hammel of UC Irvine, 8-7 (5). With the victory, Linders and Pfister advance to Wednesday's third round.
Drew Lied and John Patrick Mullane also received a first-round bye, but fell in the second round to Maciek Romanowicz and Robert Stineman of Stanford, 8-6.
Lied also qualified for the main singles draw, which will begin Thursday and run through Sunday. Lied competed at the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in August and received an automatic bid to the ITA All-American main draw after defeating Chris Diaz from Ohio State in the championship match. The Brookfield, Wis., native is coming off a junior season in which he tallied 16 wins overall, including 12 in Big Ten play. He competed at the No. 2 singles position last year and also was named a second-team All-Big Ten selection.
