EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team travels to Akron this weekend to compete in the Akron Invitational. The tournament is round-robin style that will take place from Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5. The action is scheduled to start at the LaTuchie Tennis Center at 9 a.m. Friday.
"I think last week's good results will give us confidence going forward. This weekend we have Akron, Cornell and West Virginia. I think all three will be good matches," said head coach Simone Jardim. "I think this weekend will be helpful for building towards regionals."
Joining the Spartans in Akron will be Cornell and West Virginia. The Big Red of Cornell finished last season with a record of 7-10. West Virginia finished last season with a 3-18 record and 0-10 in the Big 12. The Mountaineers went 20-5 at the Pink Invitational hosted by West Virginia this past weekend.
The Spartans are coming off a successful weekend at the Wildcat Invite, where they came away winners of 26 matches. The tournament was highlighted by the performance of freshman Allie Baer and senior Catherine Parenteau who left Northwestern as the champions of the Draw A doubles consolation bracket.
