
Spartans Set for ITA Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Members of the Michigan State women's tennis team will head to Illinois this weekend to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois.
The University of Illinois is offering a live camera feed of each of the courts and updated scoring throughout the day. The link to live video and scoring can be found here.
"I feel really good heading into this weekend," said head coach Simone Jardim. "I think they have been practicing well, and I think that they have been going hard at it. We're really looking forward to it because this is the last tournament of the fall. I think the results will come because they have been putting in the time and hard work."
There will be four Spartans in the qualifying singles bracket, two in the singles main draw, and three doubles teams in the main draw.
The Spartans will be joined by 26 other schools in the Midwest region, including five Big Ten foes in Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Other notable teams competing include DePaul, IPFW, Marquette and Notre Dame.
MSU had a pair qualify for the singles main draw that begins Saturday at 10 a.m. ET as sophomore Erin Faulkner and freshman Aslina Chua qualified for the singles main draw.
The singles qualifying round begins Thursday at 10 a.m. ET with sophomore Athena Trouillot, senior Catherine Parenteau, freshman Lexi Baylis and junior Emily Meyers trying to qualify for the main draw. Trouillot will face the winner of Madie Ballion of Illinois and Annina Brendel of Youngstown State, Parenteau will take on the winner of Maria Avgerinos of Wisconsin and Jerrika Boone of Illinois, Baylis will face Cleveland State's Mathilde Orange and Meyers will square off against Kelsey Gambreau of Wisconsin.
Three teams will represent the Green and White in Illinois this weekend in the doubles main draw. The sophomore duo of Faulkner and Trouillot will represent Michigan State along with the team of Baylis and Meyers and the pair of Parenteau and Chua. Doubles competition starts on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
Freshman Colleen O'Brien and senior Hilary Hager are listed as a qualifier alternates.
