
No. 18/21 Michigan State Drops Match to No. 9/9 Baylor, 84-65 In Florida

WINTER PARK, Fla. (AP) - No. 18/21 Michigan State had four of five starters score in double digits Saturday but No. 9/9 Baylor won after taking away a second half lead in the second game of the Florida Sunshine Classic, hosted by Rollins College.
Jasmine Lumpkin led the Spartans with 16 points, and Tori Jankoska had 15. Becca Mills and Aerial Powers scored 10 and 11, respectively.
Baylor used a 12-0 run to take a 50-48 lead on Johnson's three-point play with 12:39 remaining. After the Spartans tied it, Imani Wright scored 11 points during a 25-6 run that gave the Bears a 75-56 lead with 6:22 left.
Lumpkin led the Spartans with 16 points, followed by Jankoska with 15.
Michigan State took its biggest lead at 46-31 on a Lumpkin free throw with 51 second to play in the opening half, but saw its lead fade quickly at the outset of the second period.
Michigan State will take on the No. 19 Syracuse Orange Sunday at 4 p.m. ET, to wrap up Florida Sunshine Classic action.
Post-Game Notes
Michigan State started the same starting line-up Saturday that they had in their previous nine games consisting of sophomore guard Tori Jankoska, senior guard Anna Morrissey, freshman guard Jasmine Lumpkin, redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers and senior forward Becca Mills ... Mills started for the 79th time in her career, while Powers made her 43rd career start and Jankoska started her 27th game of her career ... Morrissey and Lumpkin both made their 10th-consecutive starts of their careers.
Lumpkin netted a career-high 16 points Saturday, topping her previous career-high of 13 points in the Miami (Ohio) game on Nov. 30 ... Lumpkin tied her career-high in the first half, tallying 13 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game Saturday ... Lumpkin also dished out a career-high three assists while playing a career-high 36 minutes.
Lumpkin becomes the fifth different player to lead Michigan State in scoring, joining Powers (5 games), Jankoska (3), Morrissey (1) and Mills (1).
Jankoska and Powers have netted double-digit points in all 10 games this season, as well as the 33rd game in their careers with Jankoska's 15 points and Powers' 11 points Saturday.
By hitting two three-pointers Saturday, Jankoska netted multi three-pointers for the seventh game this season ... Jankoska's two three-pointers Saturday also give her 85 for her career, closing the game to the No. 12 spot on MSU's career three-pointers list held by Syreeta Bromfield (2001-03) with 91 treys.
Saturday marked the first time this season that MSU had been out-rebounded this season, as Baylor had a slim, 36-35, rebounding advantage.
Mills was the fourth Spartan player in double-digit points with 10 Saturday, marking her third-straight double-digit game and fifth double-figure outing this season, all in the last six games ... Mills now has 956 career points, needing just 44 more to reach the 1,000 career points plateau ... Mills also led the Spartans in the rebounding column with eight boards Saturday, marking the third time this season that she has led the team in rebounding and the 14th time in her career.
The four players in double-figures marked the fifth time this season that four or more MSU players posted double-digit points, joining games against Oakland (11/26), Miami (Ohio) (11/30), Georgia Tech (12/4), Loyola Chicago (12/14).
Junior guard Cara Miller matched her career-high for blocks with one rejection Saturday, marking the second time this season and the fifth game of her career with one block.
