
McClure Advances to Quarterfinals at NCAA Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Seventh-seeded senior heavyweight Mike McClure defeated No. 10 seed Jeremy Johnson of Ohio, 2-1 in the first tiebreaker, Thursday night in the second round of the NCAA Wrestling Championships to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. McClure will face No. 2 seed Nick Gwiazdowski (40-2) of North Carolina State in tomorrow's afternoon session.
McClure (29-7) rallied to beat Patrick Tasser of Pittsburgh, 6-4 in sudden victory, in the afternoon session.
Junior 184-pounder John Rizqallah, who defeated Lock Haven's Fred Garcia in the first round earlier in the day, dropped an 11-4 decision in the second round to third-seeded Gabriel Dean of Cornell. Rizqallah will wrestle in the consolation round beginning Friday afternoon.
