Swimming & Diving Announces Bill Heusner Award Recipients

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State swimming & diving announced the 2015 recipients of the Bill Heusner Service Award. This year the Bill Heusner Service Award will be given to seven recipients. The award is given as recognition for outstanding service to Michigan State University swimming & diving.
This year's recipients are: Mark Lancaster, Jeff Lambert, Nancy Wing, Jim and Dianne Wertz, and Gary and Wendy Merkey.
"This is the 13th year of the Heusner Award," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "What makes me happy is that we continue to honor the legacy of Dr. Heusner and what he did for Michigan State and swimming in general. I think we have seven great recipients, and they all are connected to our program in different ways. They join a group of great people whose constant support of our program helps our kids achieve year after year."
Bill Heusner was the meet referee for every Michigan State home swim meet from 1963-2002. His tenure as meet referee spanned six different coaches. He did the job without ever asking for compensation. Heusner was also the meet referee at the Big Ten's from 1963-2002. He taught in the Michigan State University Kinesiology department.
This will be the 13th year that the Heusner Service Award will be awarded during the alumni swim meet on homecoming weekend. This year the meet is on Oct. 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the IM West pool.
