EAST LANSING - Team Green came away with a 3-1 win in game one of the MSU baseball team's intrasquad World Series on Thursday at McLane Stadium.
Newcomer Jordan Zimmerman gave the White squad a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo blast to left field.
The Green team manufactured a run in the top of the second to knot the game.
Both starting pitchers, Keegan Baar of the White team and Cam Vieaux of the Green team, were sharp through the middle innings. It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that the Green team took a 2-1 lead on Matt Byars RBI single that scored Alex Troop.
Junior newcomer Taylor Grace did his part to keep it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the sixth inning, robbing Brandon Hughes of a home run at the wall with a leaping catch.
The Green team put the game away in the seventh as Zack McGuire hit a solo home run and Andrew Gonzalez induced three groundballs for the save.
Game two will be Friday afternoon.
