
Michigan State's Upset Bid Falls Short Against No. 5 Maryland, 75-69, Monday

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Brionna Jones scored 17 points, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Laurin Mincy each had 15 and No. 5 Maryland escaped with a 75-69 win over Michigan State on Monday night.
Lexie Brown added 14 points and Tierney Pfirman 11 for the balanced Terrapins (23-2, 14-0 Big Ten), winners of 17-straight games.
Michigan State had four players in double-figures Monday night with 18 points from sophomore guard/forward Aerial Powers, 14 points from both senior forward Becca Mills and sophomore guard Tori Jankoska, along with 10 points from junior guard Cara Miller. It was the second Big Ten game this season with four double-figure scorers. Overall it was the seventh game this season with four Spartans in double-digit points.
Michigan State led by a point with less than 10 minutes left but couldn't make enough shots down the stretch to turn a scare into a shocker.

Jankoska registered a 3-1 assist-turnover ratio with nine assists and three turnovers, logging her ninth game this season with as assist-TO ratio better than 2-1, including five in the last six games, as part of 21 career games with at least twice as many assists as turnovers.
Jankoska netted six free throws Monday, giving her 114 this season and moving up to No. 7 on the Spartans' single-season free throws list, passing Kisha Kelley (1994-95) with 109 makes from the charity stripe.
Sophomore guard/forward Aerial Powers netted 18 points Monday to give her 1,024 career points, which moved her up to match her jersey number with the No. 23 spot on MSU's career scoring list, passing Jill Prudden (1974-78) with 1,012 points.
With six rebounds Monday, Powers now has 304 for her career, becoming the fourth MSU player with 300 rebounds in a single-season and moving to tie for No. 3 on the Spartans' single-season rebounding list with Kristen Rasmussen (1990-2000).
Powers netted one three-pointer Monday, giving her 66 for her career and moving up to a three-way tie for No. 17 on MSU's career three-pointers list with former teammate Kiana Johnson (2011-14) and Courtney Johnson (2004-08).
With 14 points Monday, senior forward Mills moved up to No. 18 on MSU's career scoring list, passing Becky Cummings (1997-01) with 1,108 points.

Junior guard Cara Miller's 10 points was her second-highest scoring outing of her career and second double-figure scoring outing this season behind her career-best 12 points against Nebraska on Jan. 8 ... Miller tied her career-high with two three-pointers, marking the second time this season (vs. Nebraska on Jan. 8) and third of her career.
Michigan State's 15 assists Monday was the Spartans' 12th game in a row with double-digit assists ... MSU now has double-figure helpers in 23 of the 26 games this season, with a three-game skein with single-digit helpers coming after an 11-game streak to start the season.
