EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State (7-5) is on the road once again, but it won't be leaving the state this time, as it heads to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan (5-3).
"It's a great rivalry and they have some great players," head coach Gene Orlando said. "We are going to get their best shot."
MSU is coming off a 5-2 home loss to No. 22 Memphis. The No. 60 Spartans gave the Tigers all they could handle in East Lansing.
This will be the second trip for Michigan State to Kalamazoo, the first being the Vredevelt Invitational in the fall. The Spartans performed well their first time around in Kalamazoo, racking up an 8-4 record in doubles play and a 13-11 mark in singles play in the tournament.
Michigan State won the last meeting, 6-1, at home last year.
"We lost at their place two years ago, 4-3, and they stormed the court," Orlando said. "We have to be ready for them."
Last Time Out
The Spartans dropped a home match to Memphis, 5-2. It was only the second time all season MSU lost the match after winning the doubles point. Both losses have come to top 25 teams.
What to Expect from the Western Michigan Broncos
The Broncos own wins over Detroit, University of Illinois at Chicago, IPFW, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Binghamton. WMU's three losses are all to Big Ten opponents, No. 44 Indiana, No. 46 Michigan and Iowa.
Western Michigan does not have any ranked singles or doubles players.
