NEW ORLEANS - Gabby Yurik tied for 21st place to lead the Michigan State women's golf team at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, which concluded Tuesday afternoon at the English Turn Golf and Country Club. In a field that featured 10 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 50 and seven in the Top 25, the Spartans finished 13th with a 54-hole total of 936 (310-312-314).
Yurik had her second top-25 finish of the season by shooting a 10-over-par 226 to tie for 21st. Her best round came on Sunday with a 1-over 73, and she followed with a 78 in Monday's second round and closed with a team-low 75 on Tuesday. Yurik led all Spartans with nine birdies in the tournament, including three in the final round.
Lindsey McPherson carded the second-best round of the day for MSU with a 78 and finished the tournament at 22-over 238 (81-79-78) to tie for 59th place.
Sarah Burnham (80) and Katie Sharp (81) posted the other two counting scores for the Spartans on Tuesday. Sharp had a 54-hole total of 240 (82-77-81) in her third tournament of the season, while Sarah Burnham finished with a 244 (86-78-80).
Alison Knowles tied for 63rd at 239 (74-81-84).
Playing as an individual, Jacqueline Setas had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 76 and closed at 239 (80-83-76).
No. 16 LSU won the 2015 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship by 12 strokes over No. 38 Florida with a team score of 874.
Michigan State will now have a month break before returning to action March 23-24 at the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, South Carolina.
