No. 7 UCLA Tops Spartans, 5-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Michigan State baseball team lost to No. 7 UCLA on Saturday afternoon, 5-0 and fall to 3-5 on the season. Starting pitcher Cam Vieaux went six innings, holding the powerful Bruin bats that average more than 9.5 runs per game to two runs on five hits in the loss.
UCLA jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame on an RBI triple down the left field line by Chris Keck. The Bruins added another run in the fifth after another triple set up a sac fly to make it 2-0. Vieaux continued to work his way through the lineup and keep the Bruins in check, stranding two runners in both the third and sixth innings.
Vieaux finished the day with four strikeouts and took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the young season.
Bruin starter Grant Watson earned the win, going seven innings, giving up four hits and striking out three.
UCLA added three more to the total in the seventh with an RBI double to right center by Keck that cleared the bases.
The Spartans close out the three-game series with No. 7 UCLA tomorrow at 4 p.m. when Anthony Misiewicz (1-0, 0.82 ERA) is set to face off with UCLA's Cody Poteet (2-0, 1.64 ERA).
