Spartans Split Home Doubleheader

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State won its late match against Youngstown State, but fell to No. 50 Dartmouth in its earlier match on Saturday. The Spartans fell to the Big Green, 4-2, and knocked off the Penguins, 6-0.
"The guys have worked hard, competed and just given their all," head coach Gene Orlando said. "Even with players being out of the lineup, they've been so close to getting that (next) quality win."
As usual, MSU won the doubles point against both opponents. The Spartans have now won 12 of 15 doubles points on the season, with their only losses coming to top 75 squads.
"It's never easy losing, especially after we win the doubles point," Orlando said.
John Patrick Mullane and Harry Jadun notched their third win against a ranked doubles opponent, this time defeating the No. 18 pair of Dovydas Sakinis and Chris Kipouras, 6-2.
Doug Zade and Jasper Koenen saw their doubles streak extend to nine games, as they clinched the doubles point for MSU against Dartmouth and YSU.
Michigan State then played host to the Youngstown State Penguins after the second match of the day was pushed back a half hour.
Michigan State won the doubles point, and proceeded to win every singles match that finished.
"The season so far has been a learning process, and we're making sure we improve every step of the way," Orlando said. "We'll grow from all of our experiences as we prepare for Big Ten play."
The Spartans move to 8-7 on the season.
Extra Notes
Doug Zade and Jasper Koenen remain undefeated, at 9-0, in doubles play on the season.
Michigan State has won 12 of its last 13 doubles points, and 12 of 15 overall.
Michigan State is 8-4 when it wins the doubles point.
