Spartans Head to Columbus For Double Dual

East Lansing, Mich -- Michigan State engages in its first double-dual raceday of the 2015 season, traveling to Columbus, Ohio to race No. 18 Louisville and No. 14 Notre Dame.
The Spartans saw both crews two weeks ago at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational but did not race either crew head-to-head, with the exception of the Louisville novices facing off with the Spartans in one session. MSU will face the Cardinals in the morning session which begins at 10 am, while Notre Dame faces host Ohio State, the nation's top-ranked team. In the afternoon session, MSU takes on the Irish, with Louisville and OSU racing in alternating heats.
Each set of races starts on ten-minute centers, alternating MSU/Louisville and OSU/ND entries, in the following order: building from the second novices up to the varsity eights. Each school will race six boats in each session.

The Spartans return 18 rowers and two coxswains from their four Big Ten Championship varsity entries in 2014, and add seven previous novices to the varsity roster. In addition, 19 novices joined the program this past fall. MSU's roster features eight seniors: Joanna Beaton, Sarah Crosby, Emma Green, Olivia Jamrog, Sarah Kovacs, Kimi Lakanen, and coxswains Chelsea Kneuer and Katie Trahan.
Spartan head coach Matt Weise was sure to line up his crews against stiff competition in the fall, racing 2014 NCAA qualifiers Michigan, Notre Dame, Indiana, and defending national champion Ohio State. In addition, the novices competed against Michigan's first-year rowers, dominating the Wolverines by winning nine of 10 races.
