EAST LANSING, Mich. - On Saturday, April 25, MSU Athletics unveiled a donor recognition wall to honor individuals whose gifts of $50,000 or more (over 5 years) have funded a scholarship, program, or coaching endowment during Empower Extraordinary - the Campaign for Michigan State. Endowments represent $50 million of MSU Athletics' $262 million campaign goal that ultimately will transform Spartan Athletics with championship-level facilities, a strong endowment, and increased annual giving. As of April 2015, nearly $32 million in current & planned gifts to athletic endowments has been raised through the commitments of over 100 individuals.
"When we look back at this campaign in a few decades we'll be able to look at the names on this wall and say their investment in the future was a critical step in our success," said Michigan State Athletics Director Mark Hollis. "I'm excited that we will have generations of Spartan student-athletes who benefit from the gifts recognized and we look forward to adding more names to the wall over the life of the campaign."
Mark and his wife Nancy made a $1 million campaign gift in 2011 with a portion of that gift supporting endowments.
Endowments are an investment in the financial viability at Michigan State, as they offer a dependable source of funding in perpetuity. These gifts will financially support Spartan student-athletes in their quest for excellence today, tomorrow and forever. Each year and prior to homecoming games throughout the campaign, the names of new athletic endowment donors will be placed on the wall to cement their ever-lasting legacy with MSU Athletics.
"One of the great parts about the recognition wall is you can see the progress and momentum being built for athletics endowments. As a priority in this campaign it will not only make a difference immediately, but over the decades to come," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Chuck Sleeper.
